About Us

Growing happiness even in the darkest and rainiest of days

It is hard to believe that my dream has become a reality! We started out building this journey on a tiny city lot and ended up with a huge garden off a beautiful dirt road in the country. The work isn't easy, but I see every bloom as a wonderful gift that I get to share with others.

My Story

It all started accidentally one random spring evening in 2020. We lived in the city at the time, and with everything being closed, there wasn't much to do but to spend a little extra time scrolling my phone. Okay, maybe WAY too much time, but had it not been for this extra time - Backroad Blooms may not even exist.

While scrolling one evening, I stumbled across a photo that displayed buckets full of gorgeous dahlias. The post went on to talk about how much money Americans spend on imported flowers. Are you ready for this number? Every year the US imports billions of dollars worth of cut flowers. I could barely believe it! Billions of dollars spent on flowers that are grown overseas. Before they even hit your table they are cut, shipped on a plane, traveled by truck, placed into the grocery store, and then purchased. And you best believe you are spending top dollar on this product that has lived half of its perishable life being shipped over to US ground.

After reading all this I got sucked into cut flower accounts and thought to myself, "I could do this. I can provide fresher, longer lasting, locally & organically grown flowers that are better than anything my local grocery store could carry!"

And so it began.

"Need anything?" my husband asked before heading to Menards.

"Actually, I do. Here's a list of 10 different types of flower seeds. Pick 5 of the coolest looking ones for me and then grab some supplies for 3 large flower beds."

Needless to say, I received quite the look of shock and confusion. Whether that was from the amount of things I was asking for or if it was because for the first time in forever I wasn't asking him to bring home Taco Bell, we will never know. But, seed packets made it home and a few weeks later my 3 flower beds were built.

Come summer, I sold my first set of bouquets and I was HOOKED. The amount of happiness a jar of flowers can bring someone is contagious. I walked off of my first customer's porch in awe of their joy from the flowers I grew and arranged. I was immediately addicted to providing that feeling for others.

It wasn't the beauty of flowers that kept it going for me.

It wasn't the thought that 'this could be so easy'. Because by golly, this work is HARD.

It was purely the feeling that I got, handing off that first flower delivery, that got me hooked.

It's then I realized all the things flowers can be for people. They can be used as a way to say I'm sorry. A way to say I'm worth it. A way to brighten someone's spirits. A way to say I love you. A way to beautify any room and any event. The possibilities are endless but what is so amazing is that flowers help the giver and the receiver feel something. They feel love, happiness, and pure joy.

My oh my I could go on and on, but in a really big nutshell, that's why I'm here.

That's why I grow the flowers and why I'm proud to provide American grown, freshly cut blooms. If you made it this far, thank you! Thank you for being here. And most of all, thank you for supporting my little farm
